Tuesday, Aug. 29

7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Osky Food Park in the MCG parking lot.

10:30 a.m. Rhyme Time at the Oskaloosa Public Library.

3-6 p.m. Oskaloosa Vendor and Farmers Market on the city square in front of the Mahaska County Courthouse. The farmers market is held every Tuesday from 3-6 p.m. and Saturday from 8 to noon.

3:30 p.m. All ages program at the Oskaloosa Public Library.

6 p.m. Tomato Fest at Lacey Gardens. Mahaska County Master Gardeners will host this festival. Their first Tomato Fest was celebrated in 2005 when Stan and Susan Gilland, then Master Gardener interns from Monroe County, introduced many heirloom varieties of tomatoes. Participants will discuss tomato growing topics. Lacey Gardens is located south of the roundabout at Pella Avenue and Old Highway 163.

6-9 p.m. Union Street Players auditions for “Cinderella” at the Pella Community Center. Participants will be required to sing, perform simple dance movements and read from a script. Roles for ages 8 and up. Production begins Dec. 1.

6:30-8:30 p.m. Summer Grief Support Group at The Well Pella. Contact Pam Bettger at 515-447-3383 to sign up.

Wednesday, Aug. 30

11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Osky Food Park in MCG parking lot.

5:30 p.m. The Jasper, Marion and Poweshiek (JMP) Early Childhood Iowa board will meet at the Foundation Offices in Ahrens Park, 1510 Penrose St. in Grinnell. A link to join the meeting electronically is available at jmpeci.org. Board members will take action on allocation of carry-forward funds, the contract monitoring schedule, family support in Jasper and Marion Counties, and the annual report. Meetings are open to the public.

Thursday, Aug. 31

10:30 a.m. Yoga Story Time at Oskaloosa Public Library.

11 a.m to 1 p.m. Community and Organization Fair at PAC Courts (1802 NE St., Oskaloosa). William Penn University is hosting this annual event for community businesses and groups to showcase their service. Student organizations recruit and promote their groups.

11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Osky Food Park in the MCG parking lot.

12-1 p.m. Brown Bag Book Club at Pella Public Library. The Brown Bag Book Club is an adult book discussion group that meets at noon on the last Thursday of each month in the library meeting room. Each month, a single title (or sometimes two) is read and discussed, with the discussion facilitated by a member of the group. The list of titles is available at the circulation desk. Bring lunch and bring a friend.

4-7 p.m. Pella Farmers Market in Central Park is held every Thursday until Oct. 26.

4-7 p.m. Suds of Love - Free Laundry Night at Stop & GO Laundromat. Soap will be provided.

Friday, Sept. 1

7:30-8:45 a.m. Exchange Friday. This event takes place every Friday at 7:30 a.m., typically at Smokey Row in Oskaloosa, and is hosted by The Exchange for Entrepreneurs. This event is for those interested in starting a business; who have already started a business; have questions or concerns, new business thoughts or are just curious.

9-10 a.m. Coffee Club at the ELC. Attend the Mahaska County Conservation's monthly "Coffee Club at the ELC” for homemade refreshments and freshly brewed coffee. While at the Coffee Club, visit and learn about fascinating things about nature and MCCB. This month, you will learn about interesting facts about Monarch butterfly migration. Bring your own coffee cup. Reservations are not needed — just stop in. The Environmental Learning Center is located at 2342 Hwy. 92 East, Oskaloosa. 10:30 a.m. STEAM Story Time at Oskaloosa Public Library.

12-1 p.m. Lunch and Learn at the Mahaska County YMCA. This month’s topic is back to school with Dr. John O’Brien and Tonya Horn. Please register by calling the YMCA at 641-673-8411.

6-9 p.m. Live music by Jack Kemple at Smash Park Pella.

8:30-9 p.m. Lake Red Rock presents Creatures of the Night Hike at Howell Station Campground. Hike along a woodland trail in search of the night shift. Follow the tracks left behind by critters of the night and listen for owl calls and other lurking creatures. Program is free of charge, and pre-registration is not needed. Outdoor activities will be canceled if raining or inclement weather. For more information, contact the US Army Corps of Engineers at Lake Red Rock at 641-828-7522 or via email at [email protected].
