Career and field day at Lake Miami Park

On July 14, counselors and students from the Iowa Vocational Rehabilitation Services out of Ottumwa held a career/field day at Lake Miami Park in Monroe County.

Entities from Monroe County Conservation, Iowa State University, Iowa State Patrol, Iowa Department of Natural Resources, and Peace Tree Delta Waterfowl Chapter out of Pella all hosted a Q&A and workshop for the students in attendance.

Each entity shared information about their workplace, their job, education and the skills they obtained to advance in their careers. The students also participated in activities including electro shocking research conducted by Iowa State University Graduate Research Students, a Q&A with Iowa State Patrol Trooper Darren Flaherty, a Q&A with Iowa DNR Conservation Officer Adam Arnold, a Q&A with MCCB Director Andy Wuebker and construction of wood duck boxes for nesting opportunities around Lake Miami Park with Chuck Cornelius with Peace Tree Delta Waterfowl Chapter out of Pella. This year marks the second year this event has taken place at Lake Miami Park.
